Overboard
St George Illawarra Dragons
To launch the 2008 NRL Season, Waples developed the ‘Red V Is a Part of Me’ campaign for the St George Illawarra Dragons, introducing a new positioning line for their membership program which had been running for five years and needed a boost. Project included concept development, design/layout of direct mail postcards, posters & flyers, membership brochure, press ads, banner signage, membership cards and web banners. Waples’ production team also shot and produced the Television Commercial. ‘Red V is a Part of Me’ remains a successful brand for the Dragons and the Red V Membership program recorded its highest ever levels of Membership in 2010 at 15,711.
Department of Education
Waples won the pitch to create a website for the Department of Education that assisted NSW government teachers educate students about alcohol and other drugs within the context of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education curriculum set by the NSW Board of Studies. The website needed to be visually appealing and easy to use to ensure engagement of teachers and students.
Piranha Eyewear
Ugly Fish is a sporting sunglasses brand, by Piranha Eyewear, with significant proportion of sales in the motorcycle and fishing circles. Piranha wanted to expand the Ugly Fish brand to other sports as well as increase awareness of their leisure and safety sunglasses.
Waples was asked to develop a distinctive visual campaign that would deliver the message that Ugly Fish sunglasses can be used for more than motorcycling and fishing. The concept? Everyone’s Ugly.
William Campbell College
Waples gave the William Campbell College sponsorship brochure a design refresh
UniCentre
Waples was recruited to re-work the logo and sub-brand treatment for UniCentre, the centre of social activity on campus at University of Wollongong. The UniCentre brand had evolved over a few years, signaling a need to develop policies, guidelines and strategies for the usage of the brand moving forward. The branding hierarchy would also need changing as the client became more focused on their target markets for each of the sub-brands.
The objective was to tie the UniCentre brand to University of Wollongong to better engage with the student population, but it was also important to encompass UniCentre into sub-brands without diluting each one. Waples brought the brand alive in the university building environment.
SMART Infrastructure Facility
The University of Wollongong’s SMART Infrastructure Facility is a $61.8 million world-class research and training centre concerned with delivering integrated infrastructure solutions for the future. The SMART Infrastructure Facility required a corporate logo. The existing logo was developed internally and it needed to be updated to better reflect SMART’s vision.
Waples won the pitch to develop the corporate logo and the primary objective was to create a striking logo which encapsulates SMART’s values and mission. The logo was then incorporated into the corporate identity.
Watershed
Waples was commissioned with the task of giving the Wollongong Crisis Centre a ‘rebirth’. A complete rebrand was necessary to raise the profile of this organisation as they found themselves in a heavily competitive environment for funding. The result is Watershed. Waples gave Watershed not only a new name, but a new logo, corporate identity, website and print advertising concepts.
